Taking care of your tattoo properly is essential to ensure clean healing, vibrant lines, and long-lasting results. At 31 Avril, tattoo studio Montréal, we guide every client through a safe and smooth aftercare process. Here’s everything you need to know to protect your new tattoo in Montréal.

Why prepare for a tattoo?

Good preparation helps:

- Reduce discomfort

- Improve ink retention

- Ensure your skin heals beautifully

- Make your artist’s job easier

- Enhance your overall tattoo experience

Shave only if instructed

Keep the Bandage On

Moisturize Your Skin

Taking care of your skin is essential. Moisturize daily leading up to your appointment, but avoid applying lotion on the day of your tattoo.

If your tattoo requires shaving, do it gently the night before. If you’re unsure, the tattoo artist can handle it safely at the studio.

Your artist will apply a protective bandage or second skin after finishing your tattoo.
Keep it on for the recommended time (usually 24–48 hours unless your artist says otherwise).

This barrier helps:

Prevent infection

Reduce redness

Start the healing phase safely

Avoid Alcohol & Drugs 24–48 Hours Before

Wear Comfortable Clothing

Eat a Good Meal Before Your Appointment

Avoid coming on an empty stomach. A balanced meal will help maintain your energy levels and prevent dizziness, especially for longer tattoo sessions in Montréal.

Alcohol and certain substances thin your blood and may impact the healing process. For the best experience at one of the top fine line tattoo studios in Montréal, please show up sober.

Choose clothes that give easy access to the tattoo area. For example:

- Loose sleeves for arm tattoos

- Shorts for leg tattoos

- Open-neck shirts for chest tattoos

Avoid Sun Exposure & Tanning

Rest Well

Come on time

Sunburned skin cannot be tattooed. Avoid tanning beds and direct sun exposure at least one week before your session.

Sleep is essential. Being well-rested ensures a smoother session and helps your body manage pain better.

Arriving on time helps us prepare your stencil, materials, and ensures you get the full studio experience at 31 Avril, one of Montréal’s top fine-line tattoo studios.
